The monotype is a wonderfully unique process that falls between the lines of printmaking and painting, with each image being “one of a kind”. My process differs from traditional monotype making in that I use a brayer to transfer the inked image from plate to paper. Length and diameter of the brayer dictate the size of my work. Because of the small brayers I use, my monotypes are seldom over 6” x 6”. Larger images are created with multiply rolls of the inked brayer over the paper. All works are hand-printed. In many I will bring into play the use of sgraffito, stencils, collage and/or gouache.
